It was a beautiful day for a parade. Once again, Boston Carnival brought the streets of Roxbury alive with amazing costumes, hip windin', booty shakin', and bumpin' music. I saw a lot more press at Carnival than in previous years, which makes me wonder if the Carnival is becoming more well-known.

Anyway, as usual, there were politicians and their supporters there, too. In the competition between Dianne Wilkerson and Sonia Chang-Diaz, Chang-Diaz won this battle. Wilkerson didn't show up (or maybe she joined after I saw her group pass by). Instead I saw Chuck Turner in her contingent, although not leading it, just as part of the group. Chang-Diaz, however, was there in a suit and in heels, waving at the crowd. It may not mean much politically, but I wonder how many other people noticed Wilkerson's absence and questioned why she wasn't there.
She did show up later on. I saw her when I was down by Franklin Park, wearing a red sash that said "Grandmatron" on it. She must have jumped in further down the road.

I just saw your photo of her on Flickr. Where did you take that?

Sen. Wilkerson was in attendance, as you can see from this article/the accompanying picture. She served a role in the parade in addition to having a very large showing of supporters.
